Hyvion’s Chief Pilot Honored by Alma Maters

Zach Huffman, the Chief Pilot of Hyvion, has been named “Graduate of the Last Decade” and a “10 within 10” recipient by Ball State University and Central Michigan University. Huffman earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State in 2016, and a Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan in 2018.

Ball State University's "Graduate of the Last Decade" award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of recent Ball State University graduates. While Central Michigan University's "10 within 10" award recognizes young alumni who bring honor to Central Michigan University through work in their career or community.

“These two awards are a culmination of the people I have surrounded myself with, and the community we have all built together” Huffman stated. “Each person I’ve come in contact with has had a lasting impact on me, and I value the relationships that we’ve developed with others most.”

During Central Michigan University's Alumni Awards dinner, Zach Huffman dedicated the 10 within 10 honor to his mother, Nancy Huffman, who was in attendance. “There is one person in this room that deserves this award more than I do… and that's my mom.”

Zach went on to discuss the sacrifices Nancy made after the sudden passing of his father, Larry Huffman, in 1998. As a widow, Nancy Huffman dedicated her life to raising Zach and ensuring that she could be there for every event and milestone. It was that sacrifice and passion that Zach noted in his acceptance speech.

Zach also encouraged those in attendance to stop what they were doing and to look around the room. Noting the people who were sitting at the tables with each recipient, watching virtually from home, and those with us in spirit, “Each one of those people that we can think of is what has gotten each and everyone of us to where we are today. That is why we are here, that is who we are, and that instills in us the future to continue to soar.”

Ball State College of Communication, Information and Media Dean Paaige Turner congratulated Zach Huffman on his Graduate of the Decade honor, “Congratulations on your alumni award. You made CCIM literally fly.”

Friends and family filled the tables for the award dinners including Zach’s Grandmother Eleanore Zebrowski as well as members of Hyvion’s Board of Advisors including Teresa Smith and Rick Sykes. Following the award ceremony Zach was honored at both Central Michigan and Ball State University's football games, where Zach hosted tailgates with close friends from both schools.
