Hyvion Soars at Olympic Venues

Park City, Utah and the venues from the 2002 Winter Olympic Games served as the backdrop for Hyvion’s televised flights in partnership with Tupelo Honey, a Gray Television subsidiary. Coverage for the NCAA Skiing National Championships kicked off on Wednesday March 9th, and continued through Saturday the 12th, where the skiers from the University of Utah were crowned national champions.

Hyvion’s founder and CEO Zachary Huffman was on site for the event, and commended the entire production. “Weather played a huge factor in our teams flying capabilities as well as the skiing events themselves, but we were thrilled to be able to take flight and provide stunning aerials for two fantastic organizations.”

Soldier Hollow Nordic Center was home to several events at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, and played host to similar events for the NCAA Championship. The venue lies within the Wasatch Mountain State Park boundaries and required coordination from the State of Utah and park management officials to take flight.

The broadcast was a remote production with Tupelo Honey directing from the organization's control room in Indianapolis, Indiana. Huffman stated, “These remote productions are like a fine tuned orchestra. From the directors back in Indy, to the flight crews on site in Park City the technology makes the broadcast seamless.”

Hyvion’s team also noted the benefit of flying at a world class venue such as Soldier Hollow. Taking off and landing from atop of the timers tower provided clear line of sight for the entirety of the flight, and strong image transmission despite the great distances the equipment traversed. Recaps from the men's event and women’s event cant be found here.
